The Curriculum at KS3 & KS4

Key Stage 3

During KS3 (Years 7-9) the compulsory national curriculum subjects are:

English
Maths
Science
History
Geography
Modern Foreign Languages
Design and Technology
Art and Design
Music
Physical Education
Citizenship
Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

In addition, schools must also provide religious education (RE) and sex education from KS3 however parents can request that their children to be taken out of whole or part of the lesson.

KS4 Curriculum and GCSEs

During KS4 (Years 10 & 11) your child will work towards national qualifications, usually GCSEs according to the subject choices they have made. The compulsory national curriculum subjects are the ‘core’ and ‘foundation’ subjects as outlined below.

Core subjects:

English
Maths
Science

Foundation subjects:

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Physical Education
Citizenship

In addition, schools must also offer at least one subject from each of the following areas:
Arts
Design and Technology
Humanities
Modern Foreign Languages

Schools are also required to provide religious education (RE) and sex education at KS4. Students don’t have to take exams in religious studies but schools must provide at least one course where pupils can get a recognised RE qualification at KS4 and above.
